The first industrial school held in Sichuan after the Revolution of 1911.
Chengdu Technological University（CDTU）is a public full-time undergraduate school held by Sichuan Provincial Government and administrated by Sichuan Provincial Department of Education. Established in 1913, it was the first industrial school held in Sichuan after the Revolution of 1911. CDTU has been renamed 12 times in different periods of history, known as from “Sichuan Class A Industrial School”, “Chengdu Advanced Industrial Vocational School”, “Chengdu Radio Machinery College”, “Chengdu Electromechanical College” to the present name. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, it had been under the Ministry of Electronics Industry for a long time. In 1987, it began to be held by Sichuan Provincial Government and administrated by Provincial Department of Information Industry. Since 2000, the college has been administrated by Sichuan Provincial Department of Education. Marshal Chen Yi was learning in the Department of Dyeing and Weaving from 1916 to 1918. Jiang Zemin, former President of P.R.C, paid an inspection visit to this school in 1984 and four years later he wrote an inscription for its 75thanniversary, saying “Carry forward the fine traditions and cultivate outstanding talents.” In March 2012, this school was upgraded to a four-year undergraduate university—Chengdu Technological University (CDTU), approved by Ministry of Education. The school has been listed as one of the pilot universities for the provincial “Outstanding Engineers’ Education and Training Plan.”
For the past century, the school has never slacked its social missions. By adhering to the motto “conjunction of brain and hands, unity in learning and practice” and the spirit of “rigorousness, simplicity, diligence and innovation”, it has trained a large number of outstanding talents for the country.
Covering an area of 1000 mu (1mu =0.0667 hectares ) in area, the main campus of the school is located in the Western High-tech District of Chengdu, together with Huapaifang Campus and Dafeng Campus. The school consists of 12 schools and departments, namely Mechanical Engineering School, Materials Engineering School, Electric Engineering School, Electronic Engineering School, Communications Engineering School, Economics and Management School, Computer Engineering School, Department of Architecture and Environment, Department of Humanities and Arts (Teaching Department of Ideological and Political Theories), Department of Foreign Languages, Department of Information and Computing Science, Department of Physical Education, and Institute of Continuing Education (ICE). It offers a wealth of programs spanning across a broad range of fields. They include 18 four-year majors and more than 30 three-year majors.
Currently the school has a staff of more than 600, 270 of whom are associate professors, professors and senior researchers. Among the faculty, about 66% are Master’s or PhD degree holders. We are proud of having 3 “national teaching masters” and 6 “provincial teaching masters”; and 3 national teaching teams (specializing in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical and Mechanical Engineering), 4 provincial teaching teams, and over 40 teachers who have been respectively awarded Excellent Individual in Teaching Ethics, National Excellent Teacher, Model of Teaching Ethics of Sichuan Province, Experts Enjoying Special Allowance by the Government, Leader or Reserve Candidates of Academic and Technical Field of Sichuan Province, and Experts with Outstanding Contribution.
The school attaches great importance to the improvement of teaching conditions, the total teaching equipment worth 99 million RMB. The school library has a collection of over 1 million book volumes. Based on the 10 Gigabit Ethernet, the campus network offers high-speed internet access. All the equipment worth over 10 million RMB, evaluated as Class A during the provincial school network inspection.
Approved by Ministry of Education, we are proud of having 3 national-level training bases (Electromechanical Engineering, Numerical Control Technique and Automobile Detection & Maintenance ) and 2 provincial key laboratories (Molding and Electric Processing laboratories) and 1 provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Research Center（in Sociology and Education of Sexuality）. In our 71 laboratories (and 215 branch laboratories), 14 of them are co-constructed with industry partners such as Intel Products (Chengdu) for the purpose of “combining production, learning, and research”. The Electronic Laboratory is awarded “Excellent Basic Course Laboratory of Sichuan”. Apart from these, we have an internship factory, a “Molding Technology Center”, a “Numerical Control Technology Center”, an “Engineering Quality Training Center”, a “Students Quality Training and Innovation Center” and a number of off-campus practice based co-built with famous enterprises.
We have always insisted on the combination of production, teaching and research and paid close attention to students’ ability of learning, practice and creativity. The research paper “Through school-enterprise cooperation, the operational mechanism of engineering training base can be innovatively developed and strengthened ” was awarded the top state-level prize of "Outstanding Achievements in Education.", the ideas and solutions of which have been highly recognized and widely applied among other colleges. Our students have been awarded a number of prizes in the national discipline competitions. For example, in National College Students' Mathematical Contest in Modeling, our student teams have won 43 times of the National First and Second Prizes, ranking the top among the similar schools. In 2013, our school was awarded “Higher Education Press Cup”, champion of the contest.
We have attached much importance to international cooperation. We established Canada-Chengdu Advanced Technology Training Center with Holland College in 2001 to conduct training courses on Software Technology and Hotel Management and have trained more than 200 graduates so far. We also take the lead in implementing four rounds of the educational collaboration projects sponsored by Canadian Government. It has developed and maintained a partnership with other countries, like Germany, Singapore, Australia, the United Kingdom, Japan, Sweden and so on. To accelerate the progress of internationalization, we have chosen many outstanding teachers and students as visiting scholars and exchange students to study abroad. Thus, both teachers and students are able to be in line with international standards in terms of teaching and learning.
Our mission is to prepare qualified professionals for industry. Every year, many famous enterprises and research institutions from Sichuan, such as Sichuan Changhong Electrics, The 10th Research Institute of Ministry of Information Industry, Intel Products (Chengdu), Sichuan Jiuzhou Electrics Group, Yibin Wuliangye Wine Group, as well as joint ventures from Shenzhen and Zhuhai, are willing to select talents from our graduates. The graduates from CDTU have long been competitive in job markets. During the past several years, the one-time employment rate of the graduates remains at above 95%, ranking among the best of the engineering schools in Sichuan. Hence, CDTU has been granted "Award for Higher Learning Institutions with Excellent Graduate Employment Rate" by Sichuan Provincial Department of Education for eight consecutive years.
CDTU has long been adhering the following principles: 1) fundamental cause- rejuvenating China by applying scientific and technological advances; 2) basic spirit- striving for a bright future; 3) core values: pursuing excellence and creativity; 4) humanistic feelings- dedication to one’s job and teamwork. Now CDTU is taking a giant stride forward in many fields, pursuing its social missions through excellence in education, research and services. Its faculty, students, and staff are striving to work together for advancing knowledge in engineering, sciences, humanities and professional fields, address contemporary issues and improve the quality of life in the local region, China and the world
